Cathy
Gribble Ries is an attorney with over 20 years of experience
in multiple areas of law, including 16 years of practice
focusing in white-collar criminal investigation, lawsuits,
prosecution and representation of corporate interests. She
has extensive experience in analysis of businesses and their
practices to provide risk assessments in these areas, and in
related training. Ms. Ries was Assistant General Counsel for
two Fortune 500 companies, as well as practicing with a major
law firm in Dallas, Texas prior to starting her own firm.

In the course of
her work, she has coordinated numerous investigative efforts,
working with in-house and independent investigators, senior
management as well as working with federal agencies, US District
Attorneys' offices, and local authorities on various matters. Ms.
Ries has led and worked on efforts to develop and implement
processes and procedures to identify and reduce risks to business
organizations, and to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley and the
requirements of the revised Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Cathy Ries is also
a principal and officer in AC Investigative Solutions PLLC.
Course Description -
Pretexting: An Attorney's Point of View
We will discuss the various forms that "pretexting"
can and has taken. The history of pretexting and changes in the law
resulting from various high profile instances of wrongful pretexting.
We will discuss some Texas and federal laws that apply to pretexting
and how they apply. From a lawyer's perspective, we will discuss the
ethical rules that impract this issue for lawyers and their
application, if any, to those working for lawyers. Finally, we will
discuss the practical issues involving pretexting and what rule, if
any, should play on the ethical investigator's job.
