Recognizing & Utilizing 3D Data in Private Investigations and Court

3D scanning technology is increasingly used by law enforcement to document crime scenes & crash scenes, yet many private investigators remain unaware of how to recognize, interpret, and leverage this data in their cases. This session will provide an essential introduction to 3D data, helping private investigators identify when 3D scans exist in case files, understand their investigative value, and determine when expert consultation is necessary. Attendees will learn how 3D data can be used to verify or challenge official findings, reconstruct crime & crash scenes, and support legal arguments in court. The session will also address key legal considerations, including admissibility under Daubert and Frye standards and strategies for effectively incorporating 3D visualizations into investigative reports and testimony.
